SPRING 2007 PSU FOREST FIRE WARDEN CREW ANNOUNCEMENT

It is time to coordinate the Spring 2007 PSU Forest Fire Warden Crew. In 2006 Rothrock Forest District #5 (area around State College) had 27 fires burn 591 acres. The PSU Forest Fire Warden Crew is a local handcrew that will respond (at the request of the PA DCNR BOF) to wildfires in Central Pennsylvania. No prior wildfire experience is necessary to be a member of the crew. All potential members should have successfully completed PA-130 and S-190 or be currently enrolled (Spring Semester 2007) in these courses. Each member choosing to work on a willdfire must provide their own:

cuffless cotton trousers (blue jeans are fine)
long sleeved shirt
50% cotton underclothing
50% natural fiber socks
leather boots (8" top, deep tread, stitched/nailed/screwed soles, leather laces)
hard hat with chin strap
eye protection
ear plugs
leather gloves
head lamp (extra batteries)
ability to carry drinking water
a copy of the "ten standard fire orders"
transportation

Handtools will be provided to you. All potential members should be advised that work may occur day or night seven days a week. Any member can refuse any assignment. University/classroom responsibilities take precedent over wildfire fighting.

Interested individuals need to e-mail (bah173@psu.edu) or call 814-865-6272 to become a member. Please provide the following information:
