Updated Forest Fire Fighter Information

By this time all individuals interested in being an out of state forest firefighter should have completed PA130, S190 and obtained a passing time for the arduous pack test. These accomplishments qualify you to attend the 2006 Specialized Crew Camp at Camp Karoondinha Boy Scout Camp (June 2,3 and 4). All out of state forest firefighters must attend a specialized crew camp every three years. For example: if you attended camp last year you will not need to attend again until 2008 or if you attended camp last in 2003 you will need to attend this year. Camp Karoondinha is located near Glen Iron, PA approximately 40 miles east of Penn State. The cost to attend the camp is $5.00, checks can be made out to Dan LeCrone and sent to: PO Box 403 Rothrock Lane Huntingdon, PA 16652. Mr. LeCrone needs to receive the checks by April 18, 2006.

Check in for the Specialized Crew Camp will be between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Friday the 2nd with classes starting at 8:00 PM (plan to arrive in advance of 8:00 PM to allow time for check in). Final debreifing will be at 11:00 AM Sunday morning. You will be camping the duration of your stay so plan accordingly. This is a closed camp, alcohol and illegal substances will not be tolerated. Instruction will be in the form of both classroom and field exercises, plan accordingly for weather and temperature.

First time attendees will be enrolled in the "Basic" camp courses. Returning attendees can enroll in S211 (Wildfire Pumps), Advanced Pump Operations, FALB Certification, S131 (Squad Boss) and ICT5 (Incident Commander,Type 5).

If you do not need to attend the specialized crew camp you will still need to attend an 8 hour (one day) annual update training session offered at your Forest District Office to maintain your eligibility.
