The Penn State Forestland Management Office integrates modern technology with progressive forest management. Practically every Penn State Forestland Management Office operational or management decision is aided by the use of a Global Positioning System, a Geographic Information System, the FORMS computer software program or Digital Equipment.

  • Monitor Contractor Production
  • Navigate Forests

Our Office Uses GIS to:

  • Create and Archive Quality Maps
  • Conduct Spatial Analysis

Our Office Uses FORMS to:

  • Gather, Analyze, and Store Data
  • Archive and Retrieve Data From Past Activities
  • Conduct Spatial Analysis
  • Generate Reports
  • Create Forest Inventories

NOTE: FORMS is capable of conducting all the uses listed under GPS and GIS.

Our Office Uses Digital Equipment to:

  • Measure Tree Heights
  • Measure Horizontal Distances
  • Measure Plot Radii
  • Measure Tree Diameter Up the Bole
