NOTES: The site was established naturally following the last extensive clearcutting for charcoal during the early 20th century. The stand was free to grow for 90+ years. The stand was scheduled to recieve a first cut shelterwood treatment during Period 3(1999-2003) of the Stone Valley Forest Management Plan 1989 to 2038. The first cut shelterwood treatment occurred during winter 2003. The following spring, prior to leaf out, an 8' high woven wire deer fence was erected around the perimeter of the stand to protect young regeneration from whitetail deer browse. In the early fall of 2004 Tropical Storm Ivan blew over a large amount of residual trees within the sale. At that time it was decided to salvage the damaged trees and remove the remaining standing trees. In February of 2006 salvage logging commenced and was completed by May 2006. The woven wire deer fence will remain in place for several additional years. Repeated inventories will monitor the growth of the young stand.
